I held off on getting Carol's Daughter hair products for years because the shipping costs direct from the manufacturer were really prohibitive. Add in the Canadian exchange rate and I was running scared.
But today's a brand new day. After more than 10 years of hard work, there's more consumer interest and company investment. Celebrities like Jada Pinkett-Smith, Erykah Badu and Oprah have been supporting the use of Carol's Daughter products and have helped get the naturally-made goodies some shelf space at Sephora.
Let me say it again...Sephora!
If you've never heard of Sephora, you may not have visited this site much. It's only one of my favorite places to go when my locs are in need of pampering. If there's no store near you then you can order online (and you may even get free shipping).
Carol's Daughter products that are best for locs
Shampoo
The right shampoo for your locs depends on your hair's natural texture. Is it dry, oily or normal? According to the sales associate at their Brooklyn store, the following is a good rule to go by
If dry...
Any of their choices that do not include sea moss is a good place to start. Dry dreadlocks will really love you long time for using:
For each of the above suggestions, the basic idea is to stay away from overly creamy shampoos as you don't want any chance of leaving residue in your locs. For this reason, my favorite shampoo is Ylang-Ylang & Frankincense. Unfortunately, it's not yet offered at Sephora but you can get it directly from Carol's Daughter.
Conditioner
While hair texture plays a role here too, any of the "leave ins" that use the vodka base are good because of the alcohol's mild drying effects. Your locs will be conditioned but the vodka will help tighten up your dreads at the same time.
You can also get the "Hyacinth & Hibiscus" leave-in straight from Carol's Daughter. As tempting as they all sound though, don't drink them to try and get your vodka fix!
Styling
Loc Butter is great Carols Daughter hair product that will quickly freshen up your locs before a night out on the town or that interview where you need to look ultra-presentable. A little Loc Butter goes a long way!
So head on over to your local Sephora store or Sephora.com and pick up some Carol's Daughter products and that super fun towel too!
