I've always been obsessed with the gorgeous, natural look of dreadlocked hair, and after umming and arrhing for some time, I decided to kick my own butt and get cracking!

I used to have a huuuge mohawk, but I shaved most of it off into this cute Tank Girl style haircut- perfect for dreadlocks!

As I'm a vegan, I didn't want to use beeswax or anything in my hair, so I crocheted them (no products or harsh backcombing) and they look fantastic!

They don't look overly locked, are quite soft and comfy to sleep on. I'm stoked, I can't wait to get some dreadlock beads into them :D

That actually does more damage than backcombing. The best way is either neglect( no that doesn't mean you stop washing your hair), which is just stop coming your hair and after you shower you separate them into sections, or the twist and rip, which takes a while but it works. Either way, love the dreadies. Make sure to keep them clean or they get really icky.

Cool mohawk! You might want to check out www.dreadspullen.nl . They're based in europe, but ship to australia as well, and have a lot of dread beads

This is a secret that I was going to write a post about but if you're looking for dread beads, then try Chain Gang

They have lots of different earlet and wood tunnel styles and sizes that fit dreadlocks perfectly. I thought I was a genius, if only for a moment.

I have a wooden one and ivory one at 00 gauge. Your dreads may need a slightly bigger size.
